Last night Dad, Sandy and myself made a day trip to Nottingham to see Duran Duran for a bit of 80s cheese.
The drive to the event was smooth until we got to Notts city centre and the sat nav couldn’t find the car park and ended up going round the round-a-bout too many times because there wasn’t actually a “take the third exit”.
After parking up and having something to eat and drink we queued outside Trent FM Arena, this happened to be for no reason because we were actually in the wrong bit oops, but a rather amusing bloke was revving up the crowd by shouting “When I say Simon, You say Lebon, Simon..”
Once inside we checked out the arena, seems bigger the NEC arena but a lot smaller than the MEN. Nice venue though. The supporting act The Duke Spirit were shockingly boring I was actually yawning throughout, whose idea was it to put them on before? It was like when I went to see Muse and they stupidly put on Elbow before and they got bottled off the stage. I think the only reason that didn’t happen this time was because the average age of the audience is hmm 35-50 not 19.
However when Duran Duran finally came on the atmosphere totally changed, I’ve never seen such an uplifting band, I danced and sang through the whole set.
Ordinary World and Come Undone were beautiful. Rio was played at the end, it was immense and the new stuff they played is kind of electro but still Duran Duran and absolutely amazing. The new bits caused a scene change where the four of them were in a line and looked like Kraftwerk but less German. The band were all wearing suits with splashes of paint over them, all matching and all hair was perfect (The hairdressing bill must be oh so big). The whole night was a great buzz and I couldn’t sleep after.
Weirdly though I felt a bit embarrassed telling people I was going to see them being 22 and now I’m shouting (well writing a blog post) about them. If they go on tour again, everyone should go and see them, a great night out and worth every penny.
Nick Rhodes is a genius and for making me want to get my keyboard/Logic out and compose I will post a photo of him.
I now want to buy the Alesis A6 so if anyone has a spare £1500 and they would like to buy me this at some point feel free.
Oh and a big hello and thank you to Dad for taking me to see them and Duran Duran if your read this, if you ever need a sound engineer..

Tilly,
Duran Duran was my very first concert back in 1984 and from what I’ve seen via video, they still rock out! I have meant to go see them when they’ve come around but just haven’t been able to. Your review has definitely put the fire under me to make it happen! =)
Take care!
